ASUS eee sighted
My first sighting of one in the wild: The woman sitting next to me here at SuperNova 2008 (live feed here) is using one. It's kinda cute - near-full-size keyboard; I think this one has the 7" screen. (Details here.)
The big deal: A complete Linux computer, with all the wireless links you want and 20G of ram disk, for under $600. Slightly larger than an old PDA like the Sharp Wizard, thicker and smaller than the MacBook Air (and much cheaper).
I'm sitting here with my larger and heavier MacBook Pro. But you know what? In this venue, my machine is much better than hers. It's faster, has a much larger screen, and runs OS X. We're both plugged into a power strip, so battery life is not an issue.
But on a trip? A park bench? Starbucks? The ASUS eee is attractive for sure.
