I'm sure you are making some very good point by only having these ads in your post but I'm not quite sure what that point is.

Sean, it's simple and commercial: Squarespace, the CMS that supports this site, gives me limited ability to insert AdSense ads in a way that they are likely to attract clicks. So I periodically put in a block as an article. Frankly, it hasn't been working very well, so I will probably explore other approaches. (Suggestions will be welcomed :-))
